During my 2 months of Art Residency with the Women’s Cooperative Boneca de Ataúro in Vila,
Ataúro Island, I did 24 original designs/illustration on 5 themes, all derived from what I experienced in Dili and Ataúro.
It was a fun challenge to work using regular printer paper, not-so-great-quality colour pencils, using the room window as my light table, and having only electricity 8am-midnight, after getting so used to work digitally.
The women of the cooperative, especially Catarina, skillfully created embroidery work of my drawings, as tapestries, various bags, coasters and kitchen towels, that we exhibited at the gallery/shop in Dili at the end of my residency.
